Interesting weekend:
Thursday evening met will some Muslim ladies & others organising a Women's Centre and faced with false accusations:
Saturday evening with a Black majority church (woman pastor) for a fund raising event - lots of energy and enthusiasm, with great hospitality; great giving.
Sunday pm a Muslim organised Charity Dinner with fund raising auction, some lovely articles donated for the auction: art, jewelry, autographed cricket bat. All in aid of Kashmir Orphans Trust which is rebuilding schools for bots and girls post earthquake plus a hospital and providing for other needs. Over 21K raised as well as 20 direct sponsorships at £35 per month per child for one and more years.
It was all a great challenge, but don't suppose any will hit the headlines even in the local rag.
Next weekend I hope to be preaching on God speaks in many ways - and He hasn't finished yet.

Permalink Reply by Syd Bill on Yes there are some active women, although maybe they are not all working together. Nonetheless I do notice some changes with current generation muslim ladies eg they can speak out and they make eye contact, once considered offensive.
A minister friend is proposing to do a paper on the role of women in the Church and I do try to pass on your comments to her.
A muslim lady, who about 15 years ago first drew my attention to problems facing her generation, is trying to set up a muslim women's council but she is a very busy lady. Plus I suspect the women of her generation are reluctant to change
Your question: well the local newpaper wouldn't print anything and I am still wondering whether to email my latest piece to our local church leaders. I doubt whether any of them read this website

It seems like it could be such a useful tool for information sharing and ideas exchange as well as giving us connections that can really make a difference to our work. I know that you've already encouraged people to join. I wonder if there is an incentive we can try to encourage more use of the site...
Permalink Reply by Syd Bill on To be honest Ruth I just don't know how to get any Burton upon Trent folk interested in anything outside their
immediate areas _ or even in those. I guess I have tried for so many years in Churches, Trade Unions, Education and Inter Faith.
I was hoping/still hope that your thoughts about the role of women might start something going.
In fact, currently, I am very much involved with trying to support some Muslim Women who are faced with terrible
accusations. But then I have to "shut off" for a while since I have a church service in Derbyshire - theme
"God speaks in many ways --" and then " He hasn't finished yet" So will be back
