Is collaboration with other religions in order to limit human suffering, a religious duty?

More than six billion of the nearly seven billion people on our planet consider themselves to be part of a religion. A global Arms Trade Treaty is impossible without the cooperation of the world’s religious communities.

An effective Treaty, which serves to limit human suffering, is not only a moral responsibility, it is a religious duty.

The opportunity for us to help tackle the irresponsible sale or transfer of arms and ammunition, is an opportunity for all faith communities to practice what we preach about non-violence. That opportunity has now arrived.

Absolutely. If we see someone drowning do we only jump in and save them if they believe the 'right' stuff or because God made them? Do we refuse to be part of a team performing heart surgery because the doctor 'looks like a Muslim'? Can we only work together with those who share our beliefs. In that case woe betide our churches because even within our churches we don't all believe exactly the same or even have the same priorities. Where we can agree a mutual aim for good we should work together. As for irresponsible sale of arms we never know when we sell arms where they may end up and how many of our own soldiers and civilians may fall victim to them. Thank you for this question. Mike

"Just popped back to say that last night I read the Episode in Karen Armstrong's "The Case for God" where she has written one of the best pieces I have read to date on the meaning of dialogue. It certainly is not a case of point scoring"
